Critter was a long time ago, but I still love telling her stories. I wouldn't say I took a lot of double limits of sharptails over Critter, but certainly more than a few. I tend to take a few pictures of dual limits until I get one I really like and then I stop with the pics. I have a picture of Critter with six, same day sharptails, three from Nebraska and three from South Dakota, that I really like. Hung the birds on a corner fence of the McKelvie National Forest just at dusk. The yellow cast of failing day light sets the proper mood for recollection of dual limit hunts.
Back in those days, it was the norm for me to hunt prairie grouse from dawn to dusk every trip prior to pheasant seasons opening. The two of us were prairie bird machines back then and the norm was to take a limit in either Nebraska or South Dakota and drive a short distance to the off state and keep hunting. But even then, there were days when even six sharptails came early. A couple of times before noon. I don't know that I'll ever relive any of those days with Bo or Chaos, but it would be nice to try a time or two just for the refreshed memories.
