Hunted eastern Nebraska sandhills for a couple of days with Chaos and Bo. This was Chaos's first trip to Nebraska. Birds were very scarce after last year's drought.
After a few wild flushing sharptails Chaos pushed a prairie chicken out of a range of hills. It was an easy right left but I still missed with the first barrel. Chaos couldn't beat Bo to the retrieve but she managed to wrestle the chicken from Bo on the way back.
The following day, again after a few wild flushing sharptails, Chaos flushed a single near a water tank that I took with my improved cylinder barrel. It was another adult bird and the only shot again in a half day of hunting.
Temps were very hot reaching into the 80's by noon. Thankfully there was a nice breeze all day to make loafing bearable.
I won't hunt that area again for a couple of years, but may look for quail in south central Nebraska in November.
